Colonels place five on men's soccer all-conference team
Following another winning season, the Centre College men's soccer team placed five players on the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Team as voted exclusively by the league's head coaches.
Junior sweeper Adam Boyer (Louisville, Ky.) was named to the first team. Senior Matt Hoskins (Lexington, Ky.) earned second team honors and seniors Matt Corbett (Louisville, Ky.), Ed Ohin (Louisville, Ky.) and Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) were each selected to the third team.
Boyer was named to the All-SCAC team for the first time this year after playing all 19 matches for the Colonels in 2007. The junior scored two goals - both game-winners - and had four assists for eight points. He consistently created opportunities on the offensive end with penetrating balls out the back throughout the season. Boyer was a 3rd Team All-South Central Region selection in 2006.
The conference honor is also the first for Hoskins, who scored a team-high eight goals on the season, including three game-winners, while adding seven assists for a team-leading 23 points. Hoskins was the Colonels' quickest player on the field this season and his 15 points in conference play demonstrated his effectiveness on the field.
Corbett also picked up his first all-conference honor as he scored six goals and had seven assists for 19 total points through 19 matches. Corbett notched three game-winning goals this season and his 11 points in conference play as an outside midfielder proved how valuable of a player he was to the Colonels this year.
Ohin, who was also a 3rd Team All-SCAC selection in 2005, notched one goal for two total points as a defender for the Colonels in 2007. Although his numbers do not stick out, Ohin was a very strong and skillful defensive midfielder who tackled hard and made the game look easy offensively this season.
Judah was named to his third all-conference team after earning second team recognition in both 2005 and 2006. The senior forward scored six goals, including two game-winners and had three assists fro 15 points this season. Judah finishes his career with 28 career goals after a successful career in which he was named to the all-region team twice.
Centre finished its season with a 14-4 overall record and 6-3 mark in the SCAC. The Colonels have now posted a winning season in each of the 17 years the SCAC has been in existence. Its 14 wins are the most by a Centre team since the 2000 season, when the Colonels won 15. |
