Baumann, Fisher chosen for SCAC men's soccer honors
Centre College men's soccer players Chris Baumann (Louisville, Ky.) and Chris Fisher (Cullman, Ala.) have been selected by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as Men's Soccer Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 14.
Baumann, a junior center midfielder, has been selected the Offensive Player- of-the-Week after scoring a game-winning goal and recording two assists for the 10th-ranked Colonels, leading them to a pair of SCAC road victories over the weekend against Sewanee and Oglethorpe.
In Centre's 5-0 win over Sewanee, Baumann consistently created scoring opportunities with through balls out of the midfield, and his is efforts resulted in two assists.
Then on Sunday, Baumann scored the game-winning goal from a 30-yard bomb just under 20 minutes into the first half. The Colonels went on to post the 2-0 victory and extend their winning streak to nine games.
For the season, Baumann ranks third on the team with 13 total points tallying three goals and seven assists (second in the SCAC).
 Fisher, a senior outside back from Cullman, Ala. was selected as one of two Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Week after helping the Colonel defense extend their shutout streak to four games. Centre has now gone 420 minutes without allowing a goal.
In Friday's match at Sewanee, Fisher scored the game-winning goal in the 18th minute on a prolific strike from 30 yards out.
Fisher has now scored three goals, including two game-winners, for six total points as an outside back on the season.
Centre, now 12-1-1 overall and 5-0 in the SCAC, will travel to Georgetown, Texas, Friday, Oct. 19 to play Southwestern University. The match will be place as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and will begin at 2 p.m. CST. |
