Centre's Boyer picks up two weekly honors
Centre College junior men's soccer player Adam Boyer (Louisville, Ky.) has picked up two weekly honors, being named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week as well as being named to the D3kicks.com Team-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, Oct. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
Boyer led the 19th-ranked Colonels to a pair of shutout wins in SCAC play over the weekend, defeating Millsaps College 4-0 Friday, Oct. 5 and then Birmingham-Southern College 1-0 Sunday, Oct. 7 in Danville, Ky.
On Friday against Millsaps, Boyer kept Centre’s defense organized and allowed just four shots on goal. He also created consistent opportunities on the offensive end with precise through balls out of the back.
Then on Sunday against Birmingham Southern, Boyer made the game-changing play, scoring the game-winning goal off a header from a set-piece in the 40th minute.
For the season, Boyer has scored two game-winning goals and tallied two assists for six total points as a sweeper back.
Centre will return to action Friday, Oct. 12 against Sewanee-The University of the South. The match will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 5 p.m. CST in Sewanee, Tenn. |
