D3kicks chooses Crump for Team of the Week
After scoring the game-winning goal in an emotional overtime-win against Austin College, Centre College senior men's soccer player Robbie Crump (Louisville, Ky.) was named to the D3kicks' Team of the Week for matches played Monday, Oct. 22 through Sunday, Oct. 28.
Crump scored the first goal of his career on the very same night that Centre and Austin donated $5,300 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the name of his mother, Sue Hauck, and Elizabeth Walter.
Playing in his final home match of his career against a team coached by former Centre assistant coach and graduate Mark Hudson, Crump, who's mother passed away earlier this fall from breast cancer, hit a diving header just over five minutes into the overtime period to give the Colonels a 3-2 conference win.
The goal could not have come at a better time and created a magical moment the many will not soon forget. For the season, the senior outside midfielder adds one goal to his two assists for a total of four points.
Centre, now 13-4-1 overall and 6-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, will travel to Greencastle, Ind. to play DePauw University in its regular season finale Saturday, Nov. 3. The match will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
