Men's soccer moves to 2-0 with 3-1 win over Hanover
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Centre College men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals on the road en route to a 3-1 win over Hanover College, Saturday, Sept. 2, in Hanover, Ind.
The Colonels, which have now won all seven meetings with Hanover during the SCAC era, improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 0-2 in the early going.
Just over thirty-one minutes into the first period, Hanover's Syram Kekessie scored the match's first goal off an assist from Jason Darling to give the Panthers their only lead of the day.
With less than five minutes to play in the first frame, senior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Senior forward Matt Hoskins (Lexington, Ky.) picked up his first assist of the year on the score as the Colonels tied the match at one apiece.
The score remained tied into the second half until junior Adam Boyer (Louisville, Ky.) off an assist from junior Chris Baumann (Louisville, Ky.) put Centre ahead to stay. The goal was Boyer's first of the year, while Baumann added his second assist.
Sophomore James Kusak (Louisville, Ky.) scored the final tally of the afternoon hitting the back of the net with only 45 seconds to play. It was also Kusak's first score of 2007.
The Colonels controlled much of the match out-shooting the Panther 17-4 to go along with a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) earned the win in goal in his first start of the season. Arndt made one save in the victory.
The goal by Hanover was only the second time Centre has allowed a score to the Panthers during the SCAC era. In the last seven match-ups between the two teams, the Colonels have out-scored Hanover 27-2.
Centre will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, Tuesday, Sept. 4 to play the College of Mount St. Joseph. The non-conference match is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
