Men's Soccer News First half goal lifts men's soccer to win over Heidelberg Having not won a match in its last two tries, the Centre College men's soccer team got back in the win column with a 1-0 win over Heidelberg College Friday, Sept. 14 on the first day of the Adidas Invitational hosted by Centre in Danville, Ky. The Colonels, which entered the contest after a loss and a tie in their last two matches, recorded its second shutout win of the season to improve to 4-1-1 overall, while Heidelberg falls to 2-2. Senior Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) netted the match's lone goal of the evening at the 18:38 mark in the first half off an assist from senior Matt Corbett (Louisville, Ky.). The score was Judah's team-leading third of the season, while Corbett notched his third assist of the year. The Colonels out shot Heidelberg 16-6 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Chris Creger (Charleston, S.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal for the Colonels. Creger stopped all three shots he faced. In the first match of the Invitational, Emory University outlasted Wittenberg University 2-1 in overtime. Emory's Patrick McFarland scored at the 101:13 mark in overtime to give the Eagles the win. The four teams will return to action Saturday, Sept. 15 for day two of the Adidas Invitational. Emory will square off against Heidelberg at 5 p.m. followed by Centre playing Wittenberg at 7:30 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
