Judah, Creger receive SCAC weekly honors

After posting two shutout wins over the weekend, Centre College senior men's soccer players Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) and Chris Creger (Charleston, S.C.) were chosen as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Soccer Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 16.

Judah was named the league's Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week after a brilliant weekend for the Colonels in which he scored the game-winning goal in each of Centre's two matches.

On Friday against Heidelberg, Judah created a breakaway off a throw in and converted the only goal of the match at the 18:38 mark. Then on Saturday, he converted a composed finish on another breakaway just 1:40 into the match and paced the offense to a 2-0 victory over regionally-ranked Wittenberg. The goal was Judah’s team-leading fourth of the season.

A second team All-SCAC and third team all-South Central Region selection last year, Judah finished fifth in the SCAC and led the Colonels with 12 goals a year ago.

Creger was named the conference's Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week after recording two shutouts and 10 saves in earning two victories for the Colonels as Centre improved to 5-1-1 on the season.

On Saturday night with less than five minutes to play and trailing 1-0, Wittenberg was awarded a penalty kick. Creger rose to the occasion, catching the PK and initiating a counter-attack that the Colonels converted with a goal to seal the victory.

Creger, who was a Third Team All-SCAC selection last year, recorded seven shutouts and an 0.88 goals against average in 2006 as part of the top-rated defense in the SCAC.

Centre, which recently re-entered the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III National Rankings at #23, will open SCAC play Friday, Sept. 21 against Hendrix College. The match will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and will start at 8 p.m. CST in Conway, Ark.
