Centre men crack NSCAA/adidas Top 25
For the fourth time in the last six years the Centre College men's soccer team has made an appearance in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III National Rankings, coming in at #22 in the latest poll released Tuesday, Sept. 4. The Colonels have opened the season 2-0 for the third consecutive season after opening the year with a 4-3 win over then #21 Ohio Northern University, and a 3-1 win over Hanover College. Along with being ranked nationally, Centre is currently ranked third in the latest NSCAA/adidas Central Regional Rankings, behind only #1 Trinity University (Texas) and #12 Washington University (Mo.). The Colonels will play Trinity Sunday, Oct. 21 in San Antonio, Texas. Over the last nine years, Centre has been ranked nationally six times, with its highest ranking coming in 2002 when it was ranked 10th in the nation. The Colonels join Trinity and DePauw as the only three SCAC schools to appear in the latest rankings. Last year marked the fifth consecutive season Centre has won 10 or more games. The Colonels feature 25 letter winners, including 11 seniors, from last year's team which just missed qualifying for the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2006. After playing a non-conference road game against the College of Mount St. Joseph, Tuesday, Sept. 4 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Colonels will return home Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8 to host the 18th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic. The first day will feature Aurora University against Wabash College and Wilmington College versus Centre followed by Wilmington versus Wabash and Aurora versus Centre on the second day. |
