Men's Soccer News

The Centre men's soccer team would score two first half goals to beat Birmingham-Southern 2-0 on Friday, Oct. 30 in Danville, Ky.

In the first half of play senior James Kusak (Louisville, Ky.) would score the first goal with 8:54 on the clock to give Centre the 1-0 advantage.

Centre would pick up their second goal of the half with 27:00 on the clock when senior Chris Allen (Louisville, Ky.) would connect with sophomore Ben Van Nevel (Louisville, Ky.) on a throw in to put the Colonels up 2-0 over Birmingham-Southern.

The Panthers had a couple of good shots on goal, but they would not be able to answer and Centre would go on to pick up another win.

Statistically the game was evenly matched with Centre having 10 shots on goal, while Birmingham-Southern would get nine shots. Centre saw seven corner kicks compared to the Panthers six.

Senior goalkeeper Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) had four saves in the match.

"We had a great team effort tonight against Birmingham-Southern," head coach Jeb Burch said.

"It is very positive to see another shutout. Arndt was excellent tonight and Tony Distler, Brian Fay, and Andy Burke were rock solid. I thought tonight was one of Van Nevel's and Ryan Garvey's best games all year. Also, with the emergence of Josh Settle in the middle, we now look like a complete team," Burch finished.

Centre will host their last home match of the season on Sunday, Nov. 1 as they take on Millsaps at 12:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky. The seniors will be recognized prior to the match starting.
