Men's soccer posts 2-0 shutout over Mount St. Joseph
The Centre College men's soccer team evened its overall season record with a 2-0 shutout victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph in a non-conference match Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-2 overall, while Mount St. Joseph falls to 1-2 in the early going.
Centre jumped on the scoreboard 21:52 into the match when senior Alex Wegener (Columbia, Mo.) scored off assists from seniors Richard Hinton (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) and Chris Allen (Louisville, Ky.).
The Colonels added an insurance goal late in the second half as Hinton found the back of the net off assists from Allen and senior James Kusak (Louisville, Ky.).
Centre out-shot the Lions 36-6 on the evening and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) earned his first shutout of the season stopping all three shots he faced.
"With 36 shots, I expect a few more goals," Centre head coach Jeb Burch said.
"Mount St. Joseph worked hard in this game though and really I just wanted to see this group defend for 90 minutes and get the shutout. Credit to Arndt, Distler, Burke and Frentz for their work in the back," Burch finished.
Centre will host the 20th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12. The Colonels will open against Wilmington College Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
