Men's Soccer News

Centre College head men's soccer coach Jeb Burch won his 100th match as a head coach at Centre as the Colonels blanked Southwestern University 1-0 Sunday, Oct. 18 in Georgetown, Texas.

With the win, the Colonels earn a split on their trip to Texas and improve to 11-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Southwestern falls to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in league action.

The two teams played an even first half in more ways than one. Neither team was able to score, but the two teams also had five shots apiece and two corner kicks each in the opening period.

The match remained scoreless until late in the second half when sophomore Austin Hall (Indianapolis, Ind.) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Cameron Bayse (Louisville, Ky.) with less than eight minutes to play.

Centre out-shot the Pirates 10-6 in the second half to finish with a 15-11 advantage for the match. The two teams finished tied with five corner kicks each. Senior Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) earned the shutout win in goal for the Colonels stopping all four shots he faced.

"This was a Centre type win," Burch said.

"We showed determination, strong defending, and the will to compete. Icing on the cake was we were dangerous in the run of play. The goal was a terrific service from Cam and strong finish by Austin."

Burch went on talk about the resiliency of his team.

"We fell flat on our face against Trinity. Not one of our better games all year. Yet we came out today and turned it around with a great team effort."

On his 100th career coaching win, Burch spoke of his current and former players.

"My record is the record of 44 graduated seniors. I am most happy just to see a win today so we can keep playing for something in this conference," Burch finished.
