Men's soccer team drops opener 1-0 to Spalding
For the first time in the last nine years, the Centre College men's soccer team dropped its season-opener as the Colonels fell to Spalding University 1-0 Tuesday, Sept. 1 in the first match of the year for both teams in Danville, Ky.
Centre, which entered the match having won it's past eight season-opening games falls to 0-1, while Spalding goes to 1-0.
The Golden Eagles tallied the match's lone goal in the first period when Will Van Nostrand found the back of the net off an assist from Drew Kapfhammer at the 15:45 mark.
The two teams recorded 14 shots apiece and also finished with six corner kicks each. Senior Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, Ky.) was the tough luck loser in goal for the Colonels. Arndt stopped four shots in the defeat.
Centre will look to rebound Saturday, Sept. 5 against Kenyon College at 3 p.m. in Lexington, Ky. as part of the Glenn Hyundai College Showcase hosted by Transylvania University. |
