Centre 1 - Elmhurst 0

This game was previously scheduled for the weekend of September 22, but was postponed to due the heavy amounts of rain we received that week. So it was decided that both teams would meet at a neutral site, which was determined to be Rose Hulman IT in Terre Haute , IN. This was our fall break, so we traveled there following classes on Wednesday, in order to play an afternoon game on Thursday. Elmhurst is a good team out of Chicago that has had some very good results this season, and would be a very good in-region win for us, should that occur.

The game started as expected with Elmhurst playing an extremely low pressure defense, literally playing 11 behind the ball. We knew this was coming and handled it extremely well. Our focus was to try and get a goal early, as we knew that this team would not handle being down early very well. Our build-ups and ability to get behind were pretty good, actually out-shooting Elmhurst 11-3 in the half. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get one to go in. Give Elmhurst 's keeper credit however, he did a very good job and came up with some great saves to keep them in the game, making 8 saves in the half and 16 for the game. Their low pressure did its job and the score would remain 0-0 at the half.

We felt that things would go our way in the second period, and that one of our opportunities would come to fruition. We again continued to dominate many facets of play, but again, our chances were either off the mark and cleaned up the Elmhurst 's goalkeeper. Centre would again dominate in the shots category, 11-4. Centre wouldn't break through until the 75 th minute when the referee would award a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Kevin Brown ( Memphis , TN ) would get around the corner on the right flank and dribble across the box and his defender would take him down. A strong move by Kevin the left his defender no chance but to foul. Senior David Horne ( Louisville , KY ) would step-up as he as all year and put away the PK for his 5 th goal of the season. This would be the bit of fortune that we would need and we would hold on for a hard fought 1-0 win.

On the game, Centre would outshoot Elmhurst on the game 22-7, with an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. Obviously this was a Centre dominated game, we just didn't have that finishing touch. Regardless, we came out with the victory and extended our recorded to 10-1-0 . A good spot to be as we play Asbury on Saturday night before heading to Texas for a big SCAC and Regional match-up with Trinity.
