Centre 4 - Mount St. Joseph 0

Following nearly a 12-day layoff due to rain postponements last weekend, we finally returned to the field against a visiting Mount St. Joseph squad. Because of the layoff, we stressed all week the ability to start a game and put a team under from the start…we did that tonight.

Under the lights our guys came to play from the start, controlling every aspect of the game, except the scoreboard, for the first 15 minutes of the game. Finally, in the games 17th minute, junior striker Nick Judah (Louisville, Ky.) would strike for his fifth goal of the season, off an assist from fellow junior Ed Ohin (Louisville, Ky.). Ohin would take a throw-in from junior Matt Corbett (Louisville, Ky.) and serve a ball into the box. Judah would take the ball off his chest and volley home what would be the eventual game winner. On the second goal, just over four minutes later, senior Kevin Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) took a ball from defender John Templeton (Chattanooga, Tenn.), beat his defender around the end line, beat the goalkeeper and slotted home his first goal of the season to make it 2-0. Centre would strike again just three minutes later as Judah would notch his second goal of the game. Again assisted by Ohin, Judah received a through ball that slotted the Mount's defense and Judah 's speed took care of the rest, as he finished his sixth goal of the season. The half would end with the score 3-0.

Centre would come out strong again to start the second period, but the Mount would come out much more defensive in the second half, to prevent the blowout, I presume. Either way, they certainly kept numbers behind the ball which kept us from getting behind like we did in the first half. Centre continued to control the possession however, and had opportunities to put a few in the net, however they never came to fruition. Finally in the 78th minute of the game, junior midfielder Matt Kowaleski (Dayton, Ohio) would put the exclamation mark on the game. Fellow junior Matt Hoskins (Lexington, Ky.) would serve in a ball from the left flank and Matt would get inside his defender and one-time a shot far post that gave the keeper no chance. A good sequence and a great goal from Matt who has really had a fantastic year for us thus far as an outside midfielder. The game would end with Centre winning 4-0. On the game, Centre would outshoot the Mount 20-1 and would have an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.

A well played game, especially after the layoff, and put us in a great mindset heading into our first pair of conference games over the weekend.
