Centre 5 - Principia 0

Following what was an emotional and a physical battle just over 12 hours prior to the start of this match, the boys knew that unless they came to play, and the bench played a strong role, then Principia would give us a tough match. The team, particularly the bench, answered the call as we would put up 5 goals by 5 different players and continue what are now 9 consecutive games without a loss, dating back to last season.
The starters for this game came out a bit flat, in large part due to the quick turnover in games. From the get-go we controlled all facets of the game, except the scoreboard. It wasn't until two first half subs connected did we get on the board. Junior Robby Crump ( Louisville , KY ) played in a cross from the left side that found fellow junior Matt Kowaleski ( Dayton , OH ) who hit a one-time volley into the back of the net for his first career goal. Crump would then assist on the games second goal just a couple of minutes later as he played a ball into freshman Patrick Hall (Indianapolis, IN) who hit a shot from the corner of the 18 that found the far post, just beating the PC keeper, for his first career goal. The half would end with Centre leading 2-0.
The second half would prove to be much better in terms of play as the first group came out with a little more enthusiasm to get things done. Just 13 minutes into the half, sophomore midfielder Chris Baumann ( Louisville , KY ) would play a ball into senior forward Derek Roberts ( Knoxville , TN ) who would touch around a defender and hit a 35 yard bomb that found the side-netting for his second long strike of the season. Just over 6 minutes later, senior captain David Horne ( Louisville , KY ) would head home his first goal of the 2006 season. Delivered by fellow senior Kevin Brown ( Memphis , TN ) from a corner kick, Horne rose above his defender and nodded in the games fourth goal. Centre wasn't done however, as junior Brandon Gish ( Owensboro , KY ) would hit home his 2 nd goal of the weekend off an assist from junior and fellow Owensboro native Kevin Havelda.
Once again our defense held up well, with freshman Aaron Arndt (Madisonville, KY) getting his first collegiate minutes in goal and combining with junior Chris Creger (Charleston, SC) for our third shut-out of the season.
On the game, Centre would outshoot PU 21-8.
We now, after being at home for nearly four weeks, hit the road for a tough test against two very strong Ohio teams. On Friday night September 15, Centre will face host Wilmington College and then on Saturday September 16, play Wittenberg College in Wilmington. The games are part of Wilmington's annual Kiwanis Classic.
