Centre 4 - Wittenberg 1

Following our first loss of the season to a very good Wilmington side, the guys were ready to move on and face Wittenberg University on Saturday night. Wittenberg came into this game having won some very good games, including wins over DePauw and Rose Hulman IT. This was a different Centre team that started this game, coming out and controlling the tempo from the start. It wouldn't take long for Centre to get on the board, as senior midfielder Scott Daughtridge ( Atlanta , GA ) would strike from distance just 15 minutes in. Daughtridge would receive a pass from roommate David Horne ( Louisville , KY ), take a touch, and hit a 30 yard bomb that found the upper left corner, giving Wittenberg 's goalkeeper no chance. Not 10 minutes later junior striker Nick Judah ( Louisville , KY ) would strike off an assist from fellow front runner Derek Roberts ( Knoxville , TN ). Judah would take the ball from Roberts just to the left of the penalty spot, take his first touch the inside and hit a near post shot that gave Judah his third goal of the season. The half would end with Centre leading 2-0. On the half, Centre would outshoot Wittenberg 8-4.

The second half the guys really came out with something to prove, following what was a very mediocre final 15 minutes of the first half. However, just two minutes into the period, a Wittenberg striker was inadvertently taken down in the box and would consequently convert the awarded penalty kick, to make the score 2-1. That is as close as they would come as Centre would completely control all aspects of the game and would add another goal in the 78 th minute. Horne would get pulled down in the box by Wittenberg 's goalkeeper and would convert a penalty of his own to push the score to 3-1. Then in the 84 th minute, Judah would strike again for his second goal of the game off a feed from sophomore center back Adam Boyer ( Louisville , KY ). Boyer would play a through ball to Judah who would calmly beat the keeper for his 4 th goal of the season. From there, the score would remain the same as the game would finish with Centre on top, 4-1. Centre would finish the game with a 17-8 edge in shots.

This was a great result for us and a needed win following the loss to Wilmington on Friday night. The boys responded well and it is good to get back on track with a win. As was mentioned in the Wilmington write-up, this team is sorting out who they are and as that process proceeds, we will only become a better team. No doubt, by the time conference comes around, this team will be doing very well.
