History and Records Soccer was first played in women’s physical education classes at Kentucky College for Women (a part of Centre College since 1926). Centre and KCW formally joined forces in 1930 under the name Centre College, but they continued to use KCW to describe the women's department until the KCW name was dropped in 1948. A co-ed team was organized in the mid 1970s. After a few years, the women primarily became a junior varsity team. The JV team was dropped and so were women from the varsity in the early 80s. Women played on a club team until 1991 when the first varsity team for women was begun.
