Sewanee defeats Centre women 3-1
The Centre College women's soccer team dropped its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the season, falling to Sewanee-University of the South 3-1, Friday, Oct. 6, in Danville, Ky.
The loss drops the Colonels overall record to 8-2 and their SCAC mark to 2-1, while Sewanee improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in league action.
The Tigers' Ellen Logan scored the match's first goal finding the back of the net at the 26:22 mark in the first period. Less than four minutes later Allison Davis put Sewanee ahead 2-0 with the match's second goal off an assist from Becky Gaddis.
The score would remain 2-0 in favor of Sewanee until the 51:40 mark in the second period, when Evey Gannaway extended the Tigers' lead to 3-0.
The Colonels answered with a late goal by sophomore Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.) but it would not be enough. The score was Terry's first of the season, while freshman Katie Kerr (Canyon County) notched her first assist of the year on the goal.
The two teams recorded 10 shots apiece, while Centre held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) suffered the loss in goal for the Colonels. McAuley stopped three shots on the day.
Centre will next play host to Oglethorpe University, Sunday, Oct. 8. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
