Colonels rebound for 2-0 win in women's soccer
Two days after suffering its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match of the season, the Centre College women's soccer team got back in the win column, defeating Oglethorpe University 2-0, Sunday, Oct. 8, in Danville, Ky.
With the win, Centre improves to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC, while Oglethorpe falls to 4-6-1 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Freshman Katie Kerr (Canyon County, Calif.) scored her fourth goal of the season and the first of the match at the 22:23 mark in the first period to put Centre ahead 1-0. Sophomore Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.) recorded her first assist of the season on the score.
Later in the first half, sophomore Mollie Sheron (Wooster, Ohio) found the back of the net at the 36:49 mark for her second goal of the season. Sophomore Casey Yeakel (Prospect, Ky.) had the assist, her fourth of the year.
Both teams battled through a scoreless second half with both defenses playing well. Centre out shot the Stormy Petrals 18-8 on the day and held a commanding 11-0 lead in corner kicks. Freshmen Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) and Jessica Moreman (Elizabethtown, Ky.) combined to record the shut out in goal for Centre. McAuley stopped two shots, while Moreman stopped another.
Centre will next travel to Lexington, Ky. to play the Transylvania University Pioneers, Wednesday, Oct. 11. The non-conference match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
