Women's soccer falls in overtime to Transylvania
After tying the match at one apiece in the second half to force overtime, the Centre College women's soccer team fell 2-1 in the extra period to Transylvania University, Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Lexington, Ky.
Centre, which had won four of its last five matches, drops to 9-3 overall, while Transylvania remains unbeaten and untied at 11-0 on the year.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half. Centre out shot the Pioneers 9-2 and had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the first frame, but failed to find the back of the net.
The second half was much like the first until the 72:20 mark when Transylvania's Katie Kelly hit one past Centre freshman goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) for the match's first score.
Less than three minutes later, the Colonels tied the match with sophomore Allison Terry's (Lexington, Ky.) second goal of the year. The two teams continued to battle till the end of regulation with neither team able to score.
Just under six and a half minutes into overtime, the Pioneers' Erin Rush scored the game-winner off an assist from Kelly to give Transylvania the 2-1 overtime win.
Centre ended the match having out shot the Pioneers 16-8 to go along with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. McAuley suffered the loss in goal for Centre stopping two of the four shots she faced.
The Colonels will look to rebound and get back into the win column, Friday, Oct. 13, when they return home to host Berea College. The non-conference match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
