Women's soccer wins fourth straight
The Centre College women's soccer team scored in each half and the defense did not allow a goal in a 2-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Friday, Sept. 8, on the first day of the Glenn Hyundai College Showcase, hosted by Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.
The Colonels improve to 3-0 on the season, marking the first time since 1997 a Centre women's soccer team has started a season unbeaten and untied after three matches. Wisconsin-Whitewater falls to 0-3 on the year.
Freshman Katie Kerr (Canyon County, Cal.) gave the Colonels a 1-0 lead in the first half after finding the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career at he 8:33 mark.
With 69:11 on the clock in the second half, sophomore Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ga.) scored her third goal of the young season for the final 2-0 score. Sophomore Jessie Schatz (Louisville, Ky.) also had her first collegiate assist in the win.
Centre out shot the Warhawks 20-11 for the match and owned a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) posted her first complete-game shutout in goal for the Colonels stopping six shots on the night.
Up next for Centre will be a match against Muskingum College on the second day of the Showcase, Saturday, Sept. 9. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.
