Women's soccer wins fourth straight
For the first time since the 1997 season, the Centre College women's soccer team has started the season 4-0, defeating Muskingum College 5-0, Saturday, Sept. 9 as part of the Glenn Hyundai College Showcase, hosted by Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.
Freshman Marina Hoe (Ewing, Va.), sophomore Kate Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ky.) all scored a goal each in the first half to give Centre a 3-0 first half advantage.
The Colonels added two more goals in the second half with Menard scoring her second of the match and freshman Cindy Bergstrom (Alexandria, Va.) adding the fifth and final goal for Centre.
In addition, sophomore Casey Yeakel (Prospect, Ky.) and freshman Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.) contributed two assists each and Katherine MacMurray (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) had another.
The Muskies (1-1) were out shot 26-4 on the match and Centre owned a 9-0 corner kick advantage. Freshmen Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio), Bethany Pratt (Richmond, Ky.) and Jessica Moreman (Elizabethtown, Ky.) combined for the shutout win in goal for the Colonels.
Centre will return home to play host to Thomas More College, Wednesday, Sept. 13. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
