Centre women shutout 2-0 by Ohio Northern
After opening the season 5-0, the Centre College women's soccer team dropped its first match of the 2006 season, falling 2-0 to Ohio Northern University, Saturday, Sept. 16, in Ada, Ohio.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 5-1, while Ohio Northern improves to 4-2 on the year. The shutout also marks the first time Centre has been shutout this season. The Colonels had out scored opponents 20-4 prior to the defeat.
The first half was scoreless until the 34:47 mark when the Polar Bears' Kaitlin Sanders hit the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Ohio Northern lead. Angie Pisut recorded the assist on the score.
It appeared the score would remain that way going into the half, but with 21 second left in the first period, Sanders scored her second goal from about 25 yards out off an assist from Christina Haley.
Both teams battled throughout the second half, but neither team could score and the game ended in a 2-0 Ohio Northern win. The Colonels were out shot 15-5 on the match, but owned a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) suffered her first defeat of her collegiate career. McAuley made three saves on the day.
Centre will return home Thursday, Sept. 21 to play host to Asbury College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
