Centre women blank Austin 1-0
The Centre College women's soccer team earned its 13th win of the season defeating Austin College 1-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Friday, Nov. 3, in Danville, Ky.
The win improves the Colonels overall record to 13-5 and their SCAC mark to 5-3. Austin falls to 10-7-1 overall and 5-3 in league action. Centre's 13 wins are the most in the program's history since the 1996 season when it won 14 matches.
After a battling through a scoreless first half, Centre finally broke through. With 51:39 on the clock, freshman Cindy Bergstrom (Alexandria, Va.), off an assist from freshman Katie Kerr (Canyon County, Calif.), found the back of the net for the match's lone goal. Bergstrom's goal was her fourth of the season, while Kerr recorded her third assist of the year.
Centre out shot the Kangaroo's 14-3 on the night and held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Freshman Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) earned the shutout win in goal for the Colonels. McAuley stopped the only shot she faced.
Centre will conclude its regular season, Sunday, Nov. 5, when they play host to Hendrix College. The SCAC contest is schedule to start at 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
