Kerr scores twice to lead Centre to 4-2 win
Freshman Katie Kerr (Canyon County, Calif.) scored two goals and assisted on another as the Centre College women's soccer team rebounded for a 4-2 win over Southwestern University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Sunday, Oct. 22, in Georgetown, Texas.
The Colonels, which fell to Trinity University 1-0 Friday, jumped back in the win column to improve to 12-4 overall and 4-2 in the SCAC, while Southwestern drops to 6-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.
The two teams traded goals in the first half with Kerr starting things off with her first score of the match just over nine minutes into the first period. The goal was Kerr's sixth of the season.
Southwestern answered later in the half when Shauna Davidson found the back of the net at the 25:59 mark in the first period.
The score remained tied until the 51:31 mark in the second half. The Pirates' Nicole Morilak scored Southwestern's second goal to give them a 2-1 lead.
Seven minutes later, Kerr scored her second goal of the match and seventh of the season to re-tie the match, this time at two apiece.
With 73:01 on the clock, sophomore Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ky.) put the Colonels ahead to stay scoring her 13 goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.).
Terry then scored the match's final goal, her fifth of the year, with less than one minute to play to secure the 4-2 win for the Colonels. Kerr registered the assist, her second on the year.
Centre out shot the Pirates 14-10 on the day and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) earned the win in goal for the Colonels. McAuley made three saves in the win.
Centre will return home to host DePauw University in another key SCAC contest. The conference match is set to start at 5 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
