Anderson heads Centre All-SCAC selections
Junior sweeper Kate Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and three other Colonels were named to the All-SCAC Team as voted exclusively by the league's head coaches.
Along with being named the league's top defender, Anderson was also named to the All-SCAC First Team along with junior forward Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.). Junior forward Erin Menard (Lagrange, Ky.) and sophomore goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) were each selected to the All-SCAC Second Team.
Anderson, who was also a All-SCAC Second Team selection in 2006, led a Centre defense which posted nine shutouts as well as the league's lowest goals-against-average at 0.60 goals per game. In 18 matches in 2007, the junior had an assist on a game-winning goal against Millsaps earlier this year and helped lead the Colonels to the top defense in the SCAC for the first time in the 17-year history of the conference.
Terry was named to the first team for the second straight season and third all-conference team in her career (All-SCAC Second Team in 2005) after tallying six goals, including three game-winners, and a team-high eight assists in 18 matches for a total of 20 points. Terry was named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season and was a third team all-region player for Centre in 2006.
Menard was also named to her third all-conference team after earning first team recognition in 2005 and second team honors in 2006. The junior forward scored a team-high 10 goals and added an assist for a team-leading 21 points this season. The two-time all-region player scored six goals in conference play, including three that were game-winners.
McAuley was named to her first all-conference team after allowing only 11 goals for a 0.62 goals against average in 18 matches this year. The sophomore goalkeeper made 26 saves in 1,608:17 in 2007 earning seven shutouts, just one shy of tying the school record.
Centre finished the season with a 11-6-1 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in the SCAC. The Colonels have now posted three straight winning seasons and did not have a senior on this year's team. |
