Hubbard Presents Research at Centre Symposium
Most students love Centre Term. With only one class a day it is a prime time for the students to relax and really take advantage of being able to focus on a particular subject. While Centre Term is often utilized to study abroad, something many of the students enjoy, it also offers an opportunity for students to gain valuable internship experience.
Junior Lizzie Hubbard (Hilton Head, SC) took advantage of this opportunity and spent this past January interning at the Louisville Zoo in Louisville , Ky. As an aspiring marine mammal trainer, Hubbard's time at the zoo helped her continue to work towards her goals.
During her time at the zoo, Hubbard was able to gain “ knowledge about the workings of an animal training facility and the importance of one's relationship with the animal” as well as gain “invaluable experience towards gaining internships and employment.”
The Centre College Symposium: Research, Internships, and Creative Endeavors, was an opportunity to “showcase Centre students' outstanding research projects, internship experiences, and creative works over the past year.”
After her internship, Hubbard decided the symposium would be yet another opportunity to light up her resume and continue working towards becoming a marine mammal trainer.
While there were many different ways to participate in this event, Hubbard presented a poster on her internship. In the poster, she discussed her work at the Louisville Zoo, as well as the focus of her research project which will investigate the reduction of stress levels of orangutans through desensitization techniques.
n both of these cases, Hubbard was able to take advantage of some of the many ways that Centre works to aid their students in preparing for life after college. Gaining valuable work experience through her internship and practical job experience through her presentation, Hubbard is well on her way to living out her dreams. |
