Women's soccer team drills Millsaps for SCAC win
One week after scoring a season-high nine goals in a 9-0 win over Hanover College, the Centre College women's soccer team continued its offensive dominance defeating Millsaps College 8-0, Friday, Oct. 5 in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonels have won two in a row to improve to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The loss drops Millsaps to 3-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play.
Centre scored early an often as junior Allison Terry (Lexington, Ky.) scored the first two goals of the match for her third and fourth of the season to put the Colonels ahead 2-0.
Freshman Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) then added her sixth score of the year right before the end of the half to give Centre a 3-0 cushion at the intermission.
The second half was much like the first as junior Erin Menard (LaGrange, Ky.), freshman Christina Giles (Versailles, Ky.) and sophomore Marina Hoe (Ewing, Va.) combined to score three goals within 3:33 of each other.
Menard added another goal later and junior Kim Leake (Louisville, Ky.) tallied her first goal of the season for the final 8-0 tally.
Along with her two goals, Terry added two assists on the night. Leak, junior Kate Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) and freshmen Anna Horne (Louisville, Ky.) and Sarah Hall (Danville, Ky.) also had an assist each.
The Colonels not only blanked the Majors on the scoreboard, but did not all the Millsaps offense to get any shots off the entire match, out shooting them 28-0. Sophomore Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) and freshman Jenny Young (Ross, Ohio) combined in goal for the shutout.
Centre will return to action Sunday, Oct. 7 to host Birmingham Southern College. The match will be played as part of a men's/women's double header and will begin at noon in Danville, Ky. |
