Women's soccer rebounds for first win of the year
Following a tough 1-0 loss in its first match of the 2007 season, the Centre College women's soccer team bounced back to blank Ohio Northern University 2-0, Sunday, Sept. 2 in Danville, Ky. The match was played as part of the Centre Showcase.
Just over 16 minutes into the first period, junior forward Erin Menard (Lagrange, Ky.) put the Colonels on the scoreboard for the first time in 2007, off an assist from sophomore forward Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.).
The score remained that way until freshman Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) found the back of the net 33:30 into the half for her first career goal to give Centre a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Marina Hoe (Ewing, Va.) was credited with her first assist of the year.
The Colonels defense made the 2-0 lead stand as Centre earned its first win of the year. The Colonels outshoot Ohio Northern 16-8 on the day and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) was credited with the shutout victory after stopping the only shot she faced.
Ohio Northern falls to 1-1, while Centre improves to 1-1.
Transylvania University earned its first win of the season in the earlier match of the day defeating Otterbein College 1-0. The loss also drops Otterbein's record to 1-1.
The Colonels will next play Allegheny College, Saturday, Sept. 8 in Lexington, Ky. as part of the Transylvania Showcase. |
