Sewanee blanks Centre 2-0 in women's soccer
The Centre College women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end as Sewanee-University of the South defeated the Colonels 2-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match, Friday, Oct. 12 in Sewanee, Tenn.
With the loss, Centre falls to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in SCAC play, while Sewanee won its fourth straight match to improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in league action.
The two teams battled scoreless until the 25:38 mark in the first half when the Tigers' Maggie Adams scored off an assist from Evey Gannaway to give Sewanee a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way through halftime and for most of the second half, but with just over five minutes to play in the match, Elizabeth Constantin scored off assists from Fritsl Butler and Lacy Morrison for the final 2-0 tally.
Centre out shot the Tigers 20-10 on the day and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks but could not get anything past Sewanee goalkeeper Liz Spragans. Sophomore Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) suffered the loss in goal for the Colonels. McAuley made five saves in the loss.
Centre will return to action, Sunday, Oct. 14 against Oglethorpe University. The SCAC match will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and will begin at noon in Atlanta, Ga.
