Women's Soccer News

With just under 11 minutes left to play in regulation, Wittenberg University's  Kelly Foley netted the match's lone goal to defeat Centre College 1-0 in a non-conference match in Springfield, Ohio, Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Colonels, which have now lost by the same exact 1-0 score in all three of their losses, fall to 3-3 overall, while Wittenberg improves to 5-2on the season.

Both defenses played well the entire match. Wittenberg managed only four shots in the first half, while not allowing any Centre shots in a scoreless first period.

The match appeared to be headed to overtime until the 79:05 mark when Foley hit a right side cross into the far corner for the game-winner.

The Tigers out shot Centre 8-0 on the day, while Centre held a slight 3-1 lead in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) was once again the tough luck loser. McAuley stopped one of the two shots she faced in the defeat.

Centre will look to bounce back Wednesday, Sept. 19, when it hosts Transylvania University at 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky. The match is the final non-conference match before beginning conference play.
