Women's soccer posts 3-0 shutout against Hanover
Through six matches this season, the Centre College women's soccer team has played in five shutouts including its most recent match, a 3-0 win over Hanover College Wednesday, Sept. 16 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, who have won three of those five shutouts, improve to 4-2 overall, while the visiting Panthers fall to 3-1-1.
Centre wasted little time in scoring its first goal as senior Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.) hit the back of the net with her first goal of the season only 1:17 into the first period off an assist from junior Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky).
The two defenses took over from there as neither team was able to score the remainder of the first half.
With 73:36 on the clock, junior Anna Horne (Louisville, Ky.) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from senior Marina Hoe (Ewing, Va.).
Senior Cindy Bergstrom (Alexandria, Va.) then completed the scoring and sealed the win with her second goal of the season with less than one minute to play. Junior Sarah Hall (Danville, Ky.) assisted on the goal.
Centre controlled much of the match. The Colonels out-shot Hanover 30-11 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) and sophomore Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) combined in goal for the shutout win. McAuley stopped three shots, while Lenz saved the only shot she faced.
Centre will return to action Saturday, Sept. 19 to host Denison University. The final non-conference tune-up is set for 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
