Colonels prevail 5-0 over Heidelberg College
The Centre women's soccer team won their third straight game on Sunday, Sept. 6, beating Heidelberg College 5-0 in Danville, Ky. Centre hosted a showcase this weekend featuring three other teams. The Colonels have won all three of their matches this season.
Centre freshman Amy Hebbeler (Ft. Wright, Ky.) scored the only goal of the first half on an assist from freshman Holly Shiels (St. Louis, Mo.) 34 minutes into the game.
The Colonels dominated the second half against the Student Princes by putting up 23 shots compared to only 2 for Heidelberg. Sophomore Chelsea Stanley (New Albany, Ind.) scored six minutes into the second half on a breakaway. Seven minutes later Junior Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an assist from Stanley. Junior Christina Giles (Versailles, Ky.) then scored from 20 yards out to put the Colonels up 4-0. Centre scored their final goal on a breakaway where Hebbeler was able to put the game out of reach for the Student Princes.
Centre had a total of 36 shots for the game and Heidelberg had 7 shots. The Colonels also had more corner kick opportunities with seven in the game compared to three for the Student Princes.
The Colonels next match will take place Friday, Sept. 11 with a match against Wittenberg University. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Greencastle, In. |
