Centre women win 4-3 in overtime over Millsaps on Senior Day
The six senior's on the Centre women's soccer team had an exciting last home game of their college career against Millsaps College as the Colonels would win 4-3 in overtime on Sunday, Nov. 1 in Danville, Ky.
Millsaps would score quickly and go up 1-0 on the Colonels as Leslie Robichaux would score from 20 yards out 4:30 into the game.
Centre would answer 34:31 into the game when junior Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) would score her first of three goals of the afternoon from 12 yards out. Freshman Amy Hebbeler (Ft. Wright, Ky.) would record the assist.
The first half would end with the 1-1 tie.
Robichaux would open up the second half scoring for Millsaps off a corner kick almost three minutes into the half to put the Majors up 2-1.
Centre would tie the game at two apiece when Garr picked up her second goal of the match when she headed the ball into the back of the net off a cross from senior Cindy Bergstrom (Alexandria, Va.).
The Colonels would go up 3-2 when senior Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.) scored 60:38 into the match. Senior Katherine MacMurray (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) picked up the assist on Hooper's goal.
Robichaux would then tie the game at three when she picked up a hat trick after the ball was deflected to her off a corner kick less than one minute after Centre scored their third goal.
Neither team would be able to add another goal before the end of regulation.
Centre dominated the overtime period as they would be on the attack a majority of the time. Garr would pick up the hat trick with 3.1 seconds to go in the overtime period to give Centre the 4-3 victory. MacMurray would receive her second assist of the game on the Garr goal.
The Colonels would have 21 shots, while Millsaps had 10. Centre also had the advantage on corner kicks with six compared to four for Millsaps.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) had four saves for Centre.
Centre will play their last regular season game of the year on Saturday, Nov. 7 against DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
