Colonels drop Oglethorpe 2-0 in SCAC women's soccer
The Centre College women's soccer team won its fifth straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)-opening match blanking Oglethorpe University 2-0 Friday, Sept. 25 in Atlanta, Ga.
The win ups the Colonels overall record to 5-2-1 and it's SCAC mark to 1-0, while Oglethorpe falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Just over three minutes into the match, junior Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) scored off an assist from freshman Amy Hebbeler (Ft. Wright, Ky.) to give Centre an early 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the 58:07 mark in the second half when senior Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.) found that back of the net off an assist from junior Sarah Hall (Danville, Ky.) for the Colonels' second goal.
Centre out-shot the Stormy Petrals 15-3 and had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) and sophomore Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) combined for the shutout victory. Each saved a shot apiece.
