Stanley and Brannen receive SCAC weekly honors
Centre women's soccer received the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week with junior forward Chelsea Stanley (Albany, Ind.) taking that award as well as the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week with freshman defender Rachel Brannen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) earning that honor. The Player of the Week honors were given for matches played from Monday, Sept. 28 through Sunday , Oct. 4.
Stanley came up big in Centre's game on Friday, Oct. 2 against conference opponent Austin College by scoring the game winning goal. Stanley gave Centre the 2-1 lead with less than 10 minutes to go in the game after collecting the ball on a deflected shot and putting it in the back of the net. The Kangaroos were not able to answer with a goal of their own.
The goal by Stanley was the second of the season for her.
Brannen played two solid games on defense for the Colonels to help them pick up a pair of conference wins. In Friday, Oct. 2 game against Austin College Brannen recorded a team save when she cleared a ball off the goal-line to stop the Kangaroo's attempt at an eqaulizing goal.
The following day, Saturday, Oct. 3, Centre took on the University of Dallas and Brannen earned her first collegiate goal, which happened to be the game winner. In the 22nd minute of play Centre was awarded a penalty kick, where Brannen tucked-away the Colonels first goal of the game. Centre went on to win the game 3-0.
Centre's next match will be Friday, Oct. 9 against Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
