Centre women's soccer edged out 1-0 by Sewanee in SCAC game

Centre fought a tough battle with conference rival Sewanee on Sunday, Sept. 27 in Sewanee, Tenn., but fell short with a 1-0 loss in the Colonels second conference match of the season.

The first half was dominated by strong defensive play as the half ended with neither team scoring. Both teams had opportunities to score with Centre having five shots on goal and Sewanee mustering three shots.

Both defenses continued to play well in the second half. Sewanee was able to find the back of the net with a shot from La'Toyia Slay with 17:58 left in the game. Centre was unable to mount a comeback in the game and dropped their first conference match of the year 1-0.

Centre out shot the Tigers 10-9 and had five corner kicks versus Sewanee's four. Freshman Amy Hebbeler (Ft. Wright, Ky.) had three shots for the Colonels.

Senior goalkeeper Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) had five saves in the match.

The Colonels will host Austin College in Centre's next match on Friday, Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
