Colonels blank St. Mary's 3-0 in women's soccer

After opening the season with a road win, the Centre College women's soccer team returned for its home-opener and defeated St. Mary's College (Ind.) 3-0 to remain unbeaten after two matches Saturday, Sept. 5 in Danville, Ky.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-0 on the season, while St. Mary's falls to 1-1 in the early going.

Freshman Amy Hebbeler (Ft. Wright, Ky.) score her second and third goals of the season and fellow freshman Brittany Eisner (Louisville, Ky.) added her second goal of the season, while junior Jessie Deffendall (Hendersonville, Tenn.), senior Elizabeth Hooper (Arlington, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Ranney (Owensboro, Ky.) had an assist each.

Centre dominated the match with a 30-3 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior Rosie McAuley (Fairborn, Ohio) and sophomore Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) combined for Centre's first shutout in goal this season. Each keeper made one save in the win.

The Colonels will return to action, Sunday, Sept. 6 with a match against Heidelberg University. Start time is set for 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
