Centre athletes named to SCAC Honor Roll
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) has announced its 2006 Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2005-06 spring term. From the 12 winter and spring sports, Centre College placed 80 student-athletes on the honor roll.
The 80 Centre student-athletes on the honor roll represent the second highest total in school history, falling only two short of the 2005 spring term of 82. To be eligible a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.
Because the winter sports end during the spring term, both men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving teams are included in the spring honor roll. Four Centre teams put at least 10 student-athletes on the honor roll led by the men's track and field team with 12. The men's basketball team, women's swimming and diving team and women's track and field team added 10 each.
In addition, the baseball team placed nine on the honor roll and the softball team had eight. Both the men's and women's tennis teams added five each. The men's swimming and diving team had four, the men's golf team three and both the women's golf team and women's basketball team placed two each on the honor roll.
Of the 80 student-athletes on the honor roll, 35 qualified for at least the second time. Ten of those have been named to the honor roll at least three times and five have earned Academic all-SCAC all four years.
The 10 schools in the SCAC have combined to place 793 student-athletes on the 2006 spring honor roll, a new conference record. The previous high was 764 set one year ago. Since the honor roll's inception in 1997, over 9,000 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom. |
