Softball lose to Trinity University in finals of SCAC Tournament
The Centre College softball team played Trinity University in the finals of the SCAC Conference Tournament in San Antonio, Texas Sunday, April 29. The Colonels lost 2-0 in the hard fought game.
Trinity bought in its first run in the opening inning of the game. Knocking Centre off its hot streak from the last three game, Trinity prevented the Colonels from bring in any runs. Centre had trouble getting hits as 13 of its batters were struck out by the Trinity pitcher. Trinity scored its second and final run in the top of the fifth. The final two innings of the game saw the two teams battle defensively to the end.
Senior Carolyn Besl (Maineville, Ohio) started pitching for the Colonels. She allowed one run off one hit and struck out three batters. Freshmen Tyler Travis (Lexington, Ky.) finished the pitching in the game when she replaced Besl in the fifth. Travis allowed one run off two hits and struck out two batters.
Maggie Blackburn was the only Centre player to hit the ball.
The season ends for the softball team as the finish second place in the SCAC conference with a record of 23-20.
