Vonderbrink chosen for SCAC weekly honor
After an outstanding week, Centre College junior outfielder Monica Vonderbrink (Danville, Ky.) was selected as one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (SCAC) Softball Tri-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 9 through Sunday, April 15.
Vonderbrink had a big week for the Colonels hitting .583 (7-12) and helping Centre to a 4-0 record and sweep of SCAC foe Sewanee-University of the South. She scored six runs and drove in eight runs on the week, including belting home runs in three consecutive at bats.
The junior outfielder hit home runs in her final two at bats in the Colonels 9-2 win Friday night and then hit another in her first at bat of the first game Saturday. She also added a double and stole two bases in three attempts, while not making an error in four chances in the outfield.
Vonderbrink finished the week with a 1.417 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. On the year, Vonderbrink is hitting .339 in 29 games and leads Centre with four home runs (tied for third in the SCAC).
She is the second Centre softball player to earn the weekly honor. Sophomore infielder/catcher Rebecca Rhule was selected earlier in the season.
Centre will return to action Saturday, April 21, when it hosts Rhodes College in a key SCAC match-up. Saturday's doubleheader is set to start at noon, in Danville, Ky.
