Centre Softball Sweeps Franklin in Double Header
Centre bounced back from four straight losses to win both games against visiting Franklin College. The sweep included an 11-4 blowout in the first game, while the Colonels squeezed out a 14-13 win in the second match of the double header.
Behind solid pitching from Tyler Travis (Lexington, Ky.), who allowed only 4 hits in the contest, the Colonels bats when to work captilizing on 11 hits. As part of a productive night offensively, eight different Colonels come up with hits, led by Lindsey Willet (Louisville, Ky.) who went 3-4 for the game.
In the second game both teams left the dugout swinging. With a combined total of 30 hits, leading to 27 runs, the Colonels outlasted Franklin to complete the sweep.
With multiple hits from four different players, led by a 4-5, 3 RBI performance from Laura Hufnagle (Lexington, Ky.) and a homerun knocked in by Rebecca Rhule (Lexington, Ky.), the Colonels were again a force to be reckoned with on offense. Franklin, however kept pacing, knocking in a 14 hits of their own including a homerun from Marlene Russo, but in the end fell short allowing the Colonels to complete the sweep.
The sweep of Franklin Colleg helped the Colonels improve thier record to 8-10 on the season.
