Centre softball team sweeps Sewanee in four game series
The Colonels rebounded from four straight losses to sweep a four game series against conference rival Sewanee University this past weekend with games on Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13, in Sewanee, Tennessee. The high scoring Colonels defeated the Tigers in the first game of the weekend with a score of 36-0 setting the tone for the rest of the weekend which resulted in scores of 20-2 in the second game, 19-0 in the third game, and 18-1 in the last game.
In game one the Colonels came out swinging scoring 36 runs on 31 hits run ruling the Tigers in the fifth inning and shutting them out. Senior Lindsey Willett (Louisville, Ky.) led the way for the Colonels going 5-7 with 4 RBI's in a game that saw eleven different Colonels get hits. Some other notable batting leaders were freshman Taylor Childress (Nashville, Tenn.), senior Laura Hufnagle (Lexington, Ky.), and junior Rebecca Rhule (Versailles, Ky.) who each had 4 runs.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Travis (Lexington, Ky.) picked up the win for the Colonels allowing no runs on 3 hits. Morgan Cannon took the loss for the Tigers allowing 36 runs on 31 hits.
In game two the Colonels scored 20 runs on 18 hits run ruling the Tigers again in the fifth inning. The Tigers were able to score 2 runs, but the Colonels were on a devastating scoring run. Sophomore Amber Mills (Danville, Ky.) led the team with 4 runs and had 3 hits. Following close behind was sophomore Charlotte Jones (Lexington, Ky.) who went 3-4 with 3 RBI's.

In game three the Colonels continued their winning streak scoring 19 runs on 19 hits run ruling the Tigers in the fifth inning and shutting them out for the second time of that weekend. Mills led the way for the Colonels going 3-5 with 2 RBI's. Vonderbrink went 3-3 with 3 RBI's for the game while Julia Hubbard (Louisville, Ky.) went 2-4 with 2 RBI's.
Travis picked up her second win of the weekend for the Colonels allowing only one hit and no runs during the course of the game. Cannon took the loss for the Tigers allowing 19 runs on 19 hits.
In the fourth and final game of the weekend the Colonels continued their trend of run ruling the Tigers in the fifth inning by scoring 18 runs on 18 hits. Hubbard continued some great playing for the day and led the team going 3-5 with 4 runs and 4 RBI's.
Jones picked up her second win of the weekend for the Colonels allowing only 1 run on 3 hits. Cannon took the loss for the Tigers allowing 18 runs on 18 hits.
After a great weekend with four straight wins the Colonels record improves to 16-16 on the season.
