Centre softball team takes double header against Thomas More
The Colonels continued their win streak with two straight wins in a double header against Thomas More College on Tuesday, April 15. After a winning shutout opening game against the Saints 5-0, the Colonels won the second game of the day 3-1.
The Colonels played a strong game against the Saints batting in five runs on eight hits. Senior Maggie Blackburn (Lexington, Ky.) led the way for the team going 3-4 with two RBI's and two stolen bases.
Junior Rebecca Rhule (Versailles, Ky.) also paved the way going 3-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Travis (Lexington, Ky.) picked up the win for the Colonels allowing no runs off of five hits in seven innings. Dana Bors took the loss for the Saints giving up five runs off of eight hits.
In the second game the Colonels looked to finish the day with back-to-back wins. While Thomas More's pitcher Jamie Wisenall was able to hold the Colonels to four hits, Centre was able to put three runs on the board. Leading the team offensively was senior Lindsey Willett (Louisville, Ky.) who went 1-3 with one run, one RBI, and a stolen base. Right behind Willett was Rhule who went 1-3 with one run. Seniors Blackburn and Julia Hubbard (Louisville, Ky.) each went 1-3 while senior Laura Hufnagle (Lexington, Ky.) scored a run. Each of the three seniors also picked up a stolen base.
Sophomore Charlotte Jones (Lexington, Ky.) picked up the win for the Colonels allowing just one run on three hits during the seven inning game. Jamie Wisenall picked up the loss for the Saints allowing three runs on four hits.
After finishing the day 2-0 the Colonels brought their season record to 18-16.
