Colonels fall to St. Catherine
The Centre College Softball team opened up the 2009 season with a pair of losses to visiting St. Catherine on Thursday, March 5 in Danville Ky. The Colonels dropped the first game of the double header, 9-0, and lost the second game of the evening, 11-6.
The Colonels struggled at the plate in the first game, managing only one hit in the contest. On the mound, freshman Catelyn Teague (Bedford, Ky.) got her first start of her career and unfortunately took the loss.
In the second game the Colonels fought hard in the early innings before losing the lead and consequently the game in the late innings. The Colonels responed to an early one run defecit to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead, 3-1. Centre then added a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead over St. Catherine to thre, 4-1. Unfortunately, St. Catherine put together a six run top of the fifth to regain control of the game in route to the win. Junior pitcher Charlotte Jones (Lexington, Ky.) took the loss on the mound for the Colonels.
Centre returns to action on Friday, March 6 at home to visiting Defiance College.
