Swimming brings home All-American for third straight year
HOUSTON, TX. - Sophomore Elizabeth Starr and freshman Meredith Angel returned from their trip to the 2007 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship held in Houston Texas.
Elizabeth Starr (Westchester, OH) competed in the 100 Fly, 200 fly, and the 200 IM in her inaugural visit to the Swimming and Diving Championship. Starr would set a personal record in the 100 fly (57.22) on her way to a 14th overall finish and her first All-American honor. She would also set her own personal best time in the 200 fly (2:09.01) and just miss tying her personal record in the 200 IM by .01 seconds swimming a time of 2:11.50.
Head Coach Dean Brownley added, "Liz showed a lot of composure for a first time national qualifier. She was very focused and very deserving of the All-American award that she earned. To rebreak the school records that she did is a huge compliment to her work ethic and attitude."
Meredith Angel (Campbellsville, KY) entered the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 breast and would finish with a personal best in the 100 free (54.72). Angel's time in the 50 free of 24.47 was good enough to rank her 26th overall while her 100 breast time of 1:10.04 would give her a 30th place finish in the country.
"Meredith learned a lot this weekend as a freshman. She realizes that when she is at her best that she has the potential to be a force at the national level for three more years. I think that she was a little nervous the first couple of days but then settled down her last day and swam a great 100 free to set the school record." said head coach Brownley.
Brownley also added, "To have both of these swimmers back for the next few years is very exciting for our program. If we can just get a little lucky with recruiting we can take some relays to nationals which hasn't been done in school history; needless to say I am very excited about our future."
