Swimming & diving teams win a pair in tri-meet
Competing at home for the first time in almost a month, the Centre College men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of wins each defeating both Warren Wilson College and Bellarmine University in a tri-meet, Friday, Nov. 9 in Danville, Ky.
The men's team improved its record to 3-4 on the season defeating Warren Wilson 76-11 and Bellarmine 76-5. The women's team also won in convincing fashion, defeating Warren Wilson 85-6 and Bellarmine 83-18 to up its record to 4-3 on the year.
The Colonels won 20 of the 23 total events on the night, including all 11 of the women's events and nine of the 12 men's events. Twenty-seven different swimmers or divers won at least one event, while five individuals were involved in two wins.
Centre head coach Dean Brownley was pleased with the effort by both teams and feels this meet will improve the teams' confidence as the season continues.
"We really needed a meet like this to help our confidence," Brownley said. "We have swum some very tough teams early and it was nice to put these teams away early and be able to relax a little bit. We really worked a lot of speed work this week and it showed in our results with numerous season best swims."
Up next for the Colonels is a trip to Crawfordsville, Ind. to compete in the Wabash College Invitational Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17. |
