Swimming and diving teams fall to Cumberlands in opener
In the season opener for both teams, the Centre College men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the University of the Cumberlands 125-78 on the men's side and 132-73 on the women's side, Saturday, Oct. 12 in Williamsburg, Ky.
The Colonels won only two of the 44 total events but did earn second place finishes in 12 others. The men's 400 medley relay team of freshman Brent Bowman (Allison Park, Penn.), junior Brad Erickson (Owensboro, Ky.), freshman Hunter Owen (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Pat Ley (Louisville, Ky.) won the second men's event of the day with a time of 3:46.13.
Erickson, then went on to also win the 200 Breast stroke with a time of 2:23.50. In his first collegiate meet of his career, Bowman added second place finishes in the 200 Free and the 500 Free.
Sophomores Sadie Allen (Omaha, Neb.) and Angel Meredith posted solid days for the women's team. Allen was second in the 200 Free and the 500 Free, while Meredith recorded second place finishes in both the 50 Free and the 400 Free Relay - Lead Off Legs (100 Free). Allen and Angel were also both on the second place 400 Free Relay team.
The Colonels will return to action Sunday, Oct. 14 when they host Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe DePauw University. The dual meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
