Coach's Corner

Thursday, March 29, 2007

This weekend is very important for two main reasons.  The first is that it plays a major role for the conference tournament seeding.  Being seeded in the top half of the conference eliminates playing a first round or play-in match.  For the past five years we have worked to get ourselves into the top half of the conference and this year should definitely be another year to accomplish that.  The first two matches against Oglethorpe and Southwestern will be testers but I expect us to win.  We never beat Sewanee while I was there but we made progress each time we played them and this year if we play very well it will be very interesting, again we must play very well.

The second reason is that we need to gain some positive momentum heading into the bulk of our season.  We have lost two really close matches to Bellarmine and Transy and I sense that we are down a little.  Those could have been quality wins as Bellarmine is a D-2 team and Transy won the Heartland Conference.  We are better than our record shows and I look forward to this weekend and the rest of the season.
