2007 Centre Men's Tennis Preview
The Centre College men's tennis team enters the 2007 season with tremendous optimism. Five starters return from a team that finished in the top half of the conference last year. Led by seniors Lon Hays, Danny Schmidt, and Hariharan Vasupuram, the Colonels look to continue their upward push within the SCAC this season. The senior class has seen the team improve their standing within the conference each year and expect the same in their final campaign.
Junior Doug Arnold and sophomore Barrett Freeman are expected to step up and contribute significantly this season. The five veterans are joined by freshman Brenton Deal, who will be looked at to provide stability at the bottom of the lineup.
The doubles teams of Hays/Schmidt and Arnold/Vasupuram have played together for a year and a half and this experience, coupled with their chemistry together will be critical in deciding many matches this season.
Apart from the starters, junior Jason Chadwick, sophomore Aaron Pawley, and freshman Lee Myers-White add to the depth of the squad. In the end, assistant coach Bennett Clark believes that “at some point the reality of their last competitive season for seniors, Lon Hays, Danny Schmidt, and Hariharan Vasupuram will set in and their determination for a good season will be the deciding factor for the Men's team.”
The Colonels open up their 2007 campaign with four straight road matches beginning on Saturday, March 3 in Charleston , WV against the University of Charleston . The first home match is against Union College on Thursday, March 15 at 3:00 p.m.
